Guerrero Trotting Home After a Go-Ahead Grand Slam Earlier this Season

Guerrero Trotting Home After a Go-Ahead Grand Slam Earlier this Season

Alex Guerrero: Moving with a C(l)ause?

July 27, 2015

Alex Guerrero's name has been discussed all year long as a potential trade asset for the Dodgers. Guerrero got a hot bat in May and has been the topic of many a trade discussion since then. He currently owns a .245 batting average with  30 RBI's in 159 at bats. Guerrero's power stroke has also emerged this season as he has hit ten home runs in such limited playing time. Alex has spent time at 3rd base and left field for the Dodgers, as well as second base being his natural position.

Guerrero once again became the topic of trades when Ken Rosenthal reported (here) that he has been the topic of many discussions involving the acquisition of more starting and relief pitching. He stated earlier in the year that because he is not getting enough playing time in the crowded Dodger infield, he would welcome a trade. Based on his season so far, it looks like he could be the, if not one of the, center pieces to an upcoming trade.

One of the hottest names on the trade market right now is Ben Zobrist, another 2nd baseman that plays all over the field, who's statistics are very comparable to Guerrero's. The only thing that truly sets them far apart is their level of major league experience, where Guerrero is a rookie, Zobrist has had plenty of experience. Guerrero could feasibly draw similar interest for teams willing to take the risk on the rookie for a cheaper price.

The one kicker for Guerrero is the clause in his contract that allows him to become a free agent at the end of the season if he is traded. While this may seem like a scare for some teams, Guerrero has made it clear that he is open to playing for other clubs, as long as he is getting ample playing time. This clause shouldn't affect his trade value to any team who intends on making him a starter.

Teams that could be interested in Guerrero include:

Angels, Mets, , Royals, Pirates Yankees, Astros, and Cardinals.
